This book made me cry and at times laugh right out loud. Louisa Clark is a quirky lady. She lives in a small tourist town in England. Her small life consists of; living with her family at age 27; a job at the small cafe; and a boyfriend she's been with for seven years. She is comfortable in her secure life. This all changes when the cafe closes down and she has to go on a job search. With no skills or training she takes a job as a caregiver for a rich effluent family.
Growing up in the same small town Will Traynor is everything Louisa isn't. He's bold; an adventurer. He lives life on the edge and travels the world. He has a great job he loves and an extremely beautiful girlfriend. He lived a full life until one cold rainy England morning he was hit by a motorbike and became a quadriplegic.
Over time Louisa begins to understand
Will's frustration with his lifeless body and hopeless situation. She tries to
plan activities to help him enjoy life again. Will's resistance, he has not
spent much time outside of his home except for hospital visits. When Louisa
learns of Will's plan to end his life with his parents consent, she is
determined to change his mind. Spending all their time together Will and Louisa
begin to enjoy each other and a familiar friendship grows. Will encourages Louisa to
step out of her comfort zone and live life. You could never imagine in six
months time a relationship grows between these two
complete opposites.
This is an unusual love story. JoJo’s writing is engaging and
funny. You really get inside two very different families lives. It will pull at
your heart strings like you could never imagine. I like the question the back
of the book asks. "What do you do when making the person you love happy
means breaking your own heart?"
